AN outpouring of support for Member for Collie-Preston Mick Murray has come from the South West community as his daughter battles her addiction to drugs.
Police arrested 35-year-old Bree Murray last Tuesday and charged her with two counts of possessing a prohibited drug with intent to sell or supply and one count of unlawful possession.
The charges come after police allegedly found 101 grams on methylamphetamine, 125 grams of MDMA, 20 grams of cannabis and $1,700 in cash during a search of a home in East Bunbury.
In a statement to the media, the popular politician said he and his family had been shattered by his daughter’s on-going struggle with drugs.
“My daughter has been fighting a 15 year addiction and we will continue to stand by her to give her the love and support she needs," Mr Murray said.
“Like many other families, we have been touched by the terrible scourge of drugs.
“My wife Anna and I and my other daughters are uniting and regrouping to do all we can to help."
Messages of support from the public have flooded social media.
“Thinking of Mick and his family,” Pam Anderson posted online.
“It is easy to love your children when they are good – the mark of a good parent is to support them when times are tough.”
South West Detectives are still hoping to speak to 35-year-old Matthew Robert Atherdon Geldert who they believe may be able to assist them with their investigation.
Members of the public who see Mr Geldert are advised not to approach him and to call Police immediately on 131 444.
Anyone with information about the recent movements of Mr Geldert is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
