A PAIR of Boyanup lolly fanatics are hoping their idea to open a gingerbread house style cafe will be the area’s next big tourist attraction.
Julie Shadbolt and James Earley, who own lolly catering business Lotsa Lollies, believe their sweet retreat will complement South West drawcards like the iconic Gnomesville and Donny-brook playground.
The couple begun work converting a house in Boyanup to resemble a fairytale gingerbread house, complete with biscuit walls, icing trimmed roof, lollypop trees, a lolly room and themed cafe.
Mrs Shadbolt told the Bunbury Mail that she hoped the cafe would draw tourists, especially kids and their families, to Boyanup.
“It’ll be nice to have a tourist attraction in the South West for kids to live out a lolly-filled fairytale, and the parents can sit down and have a coffee while they are doing it.”
“It’ll be a big day out if they go and see Gnomesville first, our gingerbread house and then up to the Donnybrook playground – it’s something that the area has been missing,” Mrs Shadbolt said.
Gnomesville, in the Ferguson Valley, attracts visitors to a strip of land covered in thousands of garden gnomes.
The village and its inhabitants will play host to national garden guru Graham Ross and television show Better Homes and Gardens later this year.
Mrs Shadbolt said she hoped to have the gingerbread house completed before the visit.
