BUNBURY’S Sail Into Life program has received a facelift thanks to Bankwest volunteers from Bunbury, Margaret River, Busselton and Perth.
Eleven staff members proved many hands make light work as they painted floating pontoons, polished dinghies and washed sails on Wednesday, August 18.
This half a day of service was facilitated by Volunteer South West in partnership with Volunteering WA.
The help allowed the sailing program’s regular volunteers to get on with everything else that needs attention before the sailing season begins in October.
The boats were cleaned and polished, life jackets washed, the office cleared of winter debris and sand, a shade sail was erected and pontoons were painted with anti-foul protection in just a few hours.
Sail into Life coordinator Sharon Kavanagh was grateful for the enthusiastic help and hard physical work offered by these volunteers and enjoyed seeing the camaraderie that was clear between her volunteers and these corporate volunteers.
“It was a fantastic day and this cut short weeks of works that my volunteers would have had to undertake,” she said.
“We are ready to sail now.”
Volunteer South West coordinator Shamara Williams said everyone benefited from the contributions that corporate volunteers make and she encouraged businesses to follow this example and give volunteering a go.
“Volunteers power our community and Volunteer South West is proud to support both businesses and volunteer supported agencies to make this happen,” she said.
