THEATRE: Get their autographs now before they hit the big-time in Hollywood.
This was the word of advice from the Bunbury Repertory Club as they prepare to reveal their junior production this weekend.
Co-director Charise D’Ath spoke to entertainment about the mystical fantasy tale Hoka Polka that will be brought to life by the budding stars.
The cast ranges in age from eight to 15, with D’Ath’s five-year-old daughter also making a special appearance.
The production has been taking shape since May with several rehearsals a week as the young thespians put the polish on their craft.
D’Ath said the story takes the audience on a fantasy journey led by a group of witches who are on a mission to save magic from being taken away.
The sweetest witch must wake the sleeping prince and save the day.
“It’s not your classic fairytale, it’s full of witches and pixies and it’s the prince who needs to be saved,” D’Ath said.
“The set and costumes are gorgeous with plenty of colour.”
D’Ath has plenty of experience working with both adults and children on stage, but she said the young stars offer a different perspective.
“There’s a real sense of fun – they really bring you into their world,” she said.
“We always write on the program ‘Get their autographs now before they head off to Hollywood’ – there’s some real talent here.”
Holka Polka will come to the Little Theatre on Pratt Road in Eaton on October 3, 4 and 5.
D’Ath advised that the junior productions were very popular and it was a good idea to book ahead of time as they can sell out.
