Police are still searching for missing clinically insane killer Enoch Samuel Walsh but admit he could be anywhere, three days after he was last seen.
Mr Walsh - also known as Samuel Mark Walsh and Enoch Samuel Wright - was last seen on Sunday morning at Romily House, a Shenton Road hostel which provides supported accomodation to adults with chronic mental illness with the capacity for 70 patients.
The 38-year-old failed to return to the facility on Sunday afternoon but the Mentally Impaired Accused Review Board was not notified until Monday.
Mr Walsh killed his mother Patricia Lynette Wright during a psychotic episode in Kalgoorlie in 2005 but was acquitted of murder in 2007, after Supreme Court Justice Geoffrey Miller ruled he was not criminally responsible for his actions.
At the time, the court heard Mr Walsh believed he was Enoch from the Book of Revelation, who condemned those who committed Godless deeds.
He was sentenced to be detained in a care facility at the discretion of the Mentally Impaired Review Board, however he spent just one year in Graylands Hospital before his release by way of leave of absence.
Attorney General Michael Mischin said there was no reason to cancel or suspend Mr Walsh's leave prior to his disappearance.
"I have received statutory reports from the Board, advising of Mr Walsh's performance pursuant to leave granted by the Board from time to time," he said.
"Those reports indicated that Mr Walsh was performing satisfactorily and compliant with the conditions of his leave and were supportive of continuing his leave under its supervision.
"There was no reason to cancel or suspend his leave"
A staff member at Romily House told Fairfax Media on Tuesday that Mr Walsh had been "walking the line like you wouldn't believe".
"He's probably a lot better than most," she said
"He's got a job, he drives a car, he's been absolutely amazing.
"For the last four years he's not put a foot wrong and now he's going to be punished for something that happened years and years and years ago."
While police said on Tuesday it was believed Mr Walsh was making his way to the Goldfields, police spokeswoman Barb Crane said on Wednesday that Mr Walsh could be anywhere.
He is believed to be driving his own car, a 1998 silver Hyundai Excel hatchback, registration 1AFY124, east towards Kalgoorlie.
Police say he should not be approached under any circumstances.
He is described as being 182 centimetres tall and of slim build, with brown hair and blue eyes.
Anyone who sees Mr Walsh should call police immediately on 131 444.
