A WOMAN with a ‘20-year history of dishonesty’ was fined $7300 in Mandurah Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Natalie Michelle Brennan pleaded guilty to 10 stealing charges, two counts of driving with a suspended licence, one count of possessing a prohibited drug (cannabis) and one count of speeding.
Ms Brennan was also charged with two counts of giving false personal details to police.
The stealing charges related to shoplifting offences where more than $2200 worth of goods was taken between July and September including handbags, cookware, groceries and clothing.
Ms Brennan has been in custody since September 24.
Counsel for the offender said earlier in her life Ms Brennan had stolen to fund a drug addiction but now thought she was a kleptomaniac.
The court heard Ms Brennan realised she had a serious problem and had previously seen a psychologist and created a plan to manage her mental health.
Magistrate Robert Young said Ms Brennan had continued a course of offending over the past two decades and had an overall disregard for court orders.
“These are deliberate, pre-meditated stealing offences,” he said.
Ms Brennan was remanded in custody to appear in Perth Magistrates Court in December on other matters.
