ORIENTEERING: The South West Orienteering Trekkers staged a very successful multi-day short distance event last week.
These events are proving very popular because they can be conducted in urban environments such as parks and school campuses.
130 competitors from Bunbury, Perth and the eastern states fought out the events in Bunbury, Cowaramup and Margaret River.
South West Orienter-ing Trekkers member Don Mason said the key to orienteering was navigating your way between checkpoints in the quickest time.
“Attention to the map is paramount as impassable features such as gardens, walls and fences affect times,” he said.
South West Orienteer-ing Trekkers acquitted themselves well over the four events with many placing in their respective events.
Nichelle Byfield was especially impressive, awarded winner in the women’s section of the short open B course.
