THE easiest way to stop bullying is to talk to people about it.
This is the message from Bunbury Primary School student Joel Brown, 12, who has written a powerful anti-bullying poem for the Write 4 Fun competition.
Joel hopes his poem can inspire his peers and the community to look out for each other.
“When I wrote this poem I started with B for bullying and bad and went from there,” he said.
“In class we spent time talking about what causes bullying and what goes through the heads of bullies.
“Now we need to think of ways to make them stop.”
Joel said there is no need to hurt other people and make them lonely with his poem capturing bullying in the playground as well as cyberbullying.
Associate principal Franca Dillon said the school is proud of Joel and his efforts to produce a nicer environment for other students.
Bullying and bad, they both start with B. There is no need to be mean to nerds or science geeks. There is no need to laugh at what or how they eat. All they need to be happy is a life of peace. Look at those tough guys, picking on the weak. It is pathetic and sad and they say they’re at the peak. The bully has a choice to be their friend or be their end. This could all be avoided if they clicked delete instead of send. Or instead of a punch, lend a helping hand. We could all team up and turn their tide. It would be better than another suicide. – written by Joel Brown, a12-year-old student at Bunbury Primary School.
“We were all very impressed with Joel’s poem,” Ms Dillon said.
“It is very strong and sends a positive message to those around him.”
Joel said his message for the community is to work together to stop bullying.
“Try your very best to ignore it and look for help and support from others if it happens to you.”
