A dead dolphin calf washed ashore in Mandurah this week.
MANDURAH Mail reader Jacob Headington made a gruesome discovery at a Silver Sands beach on Wednesday afternoon when he found a dead baby dolphin washed ashore.
A Department of Parks and Wildlife spokesperson said the discovery was nothing to be alarmed about.
“It is not uncommon for still-born dolphins such as the one pictured to wash up on the shore or be found floating in the water,” the spokesperson said.
“Mortality amongst the offspring of most animals is quite normal and is nature’s way of weeding out the weak and compromised animals. “
