A BUNBURY florist has shot to national acclaim, taking out a top industry prize just a month after winning a state title.
On the 89th floor of Melbourne’s Eureka Building last Friday Florist Gump owner Jenny Scott watched in elated disbelief as her shop was named this year’s national Interflora Pursuit of Excellence victor.
“My heart was beating fast from the excitement of it,” Ms Scott told business.
“You are standing up there with five other people and it can be anyone’s award, so when we were called it felt like a really big honour.
“It was an amazing night – it is nice to do beautiful flowers but it is also about running a good business.”
In her acceptance speech Ms Scott said her staff was a big reason for the win.
“Your team is only as good as you train them, I firmly believe that,” she said.
Part of the selection process saw a mystery assessor visit every award nominee across Australia.
The quality of Florist Gump’s arrangements were also scrutinised through mock orders.
Ms Scott said she hoped the business would bloom after receiving the accolade.
“It just shows to businesses that we take our flower arrangements very seriously and we would hope that would instil some of that confidence in customers when they are picking an arrangement.”
