GYMNASTICS: In just three weeks, local student Celena San has gone from gymnastics training at the Bunbury PCYC to chasing her Olympic dream.
Competing at the state championships recently, Celena was identified as talented and asked to study at the Western Australian Institute of Sport.
Celena’s mother Fiona told the Bunbury Mail the family packed their bags and made the move to Perth last week.
“We are so proud of Celena and more than happy to help her on her way to success,” Ms Rudkin said.
“She trains everyday and just loves it – she is really thriving.”
“The institute train their students from a young age and Celena would like to make it all the way to the Olympics.”
Then after just three weeks of training at the Swan Districts Gymnastics Club, Celena received a special gift on Saturday to coincide with her eighth birthday.
The talented young athlete has been selected to participate in the Camp USA International Champion-ships next August.
“Celena will fly to Pennsylvania where she will join the summer camp for three weeks next year,” Ms Rudkin said.
“It will be a fantastic opportunity for her to continue her training and she will also have the chance to visit Disneyland which she is very excited about.”
The camp has helped to launch the careers of a number of Olympians including four time world championship gold medallist Nastia Liukin.
