VISITORS to the Morrissey Homestead community centre have a beautiful new garden thanks to twelve members of Alcoa’s Bunbury port crew.
The company’s employees are donating thousands of volunteer hours assisting more than 100 community and non-profit organisations across Australia as the company’s ninth worldwide month of service initiative continues.
The group set up reticulation, replanted and mulched to create a sensory garden for the centre’s clients.
Morrissey Home-stead manager Anne Mitchell said the teams’ endeavours had created a positive experience for the centre’s clients.
“Our garden was overdue a makeover and turning it into a sensory experience featuring plants such as geraniums, lavender, thyme and mint triggers memories for our clients in a space they can enjoy peacefully and safely,” Ms Mitchell said.
Other local month of service activities included installing a community garden and building maintenance work at the Yarloop Workshops, revamping the garden areas at Waroona District High School and building improved disability access at College Row School.
During the month of service, Alcoa employees donate more than 10,000 volunteer hours to help community and non-profit organisations.
