FAMILIES could be moving into a new Treendale development within 12 months, according to Barr and Standley sales consultant Wayne Spells.
The transformation of bushland between the current Treendale estate and the Collie River has been given the green light by the WA Planning Commission after about seven years of planning.
Treendale Riverside is expected to house about 2500 people on 535 blocks with zoning for a restaurant precinct and food hall.
The footings are in place for a long-awaited bridge across the Collie River, connecting Treendale to Eaton.
Bunbury real estate agency Barr and Standley have the listing over the development, which Mr Spells said would ease the region’s land shortage.
“It’s no secret that Greater Bunbury is experiencing a land shortage and this will go a long way towards fixing that problem,” Mr Spells said.
“Confidence has returned to the market in the last 12 to 18 months – mums, dads and investors now feel confident to go out and build.”
Mr Spells said construction was “imminent” with 40 blocks to be released initially and 100 in the first stage.
He said the development would include almost 10 hectares of public open space so residents could “walk their dog along the river” and zoning for a restaurant precinct which would include a food hall similar to those in Perth.
“A lot of good thought and design has gone into this – all the ducks are in a row and we’re ready to go,” Mr Spells said.
Harvey shire president Tania Jackson said she was happy to see the development taking shape.
“It will be good to see the connection through to the river built to join those communities together and to internalise traffic so people don’t have to go out on the main road,” Ms Jackson said.
