STUDENTS across Greater Bunbury are hard at work learning some last minute facts as they prepare for the 2014 West Australian Certificate of Education exams.
Starting on Monday, the state’s year 12 students will be tested on their years of schooling with those studying Physics the first to face the exam room.
Dance students will complete the last exam on Friday, November 21.
City of Bunbury Mayor Gary Brennan wished the students all the best in their exams.
“As the year 12 students sit their exams next week, all the hard work and dedication to their studies will be put to the test,” Mr Brennan said.
“These young people are our future leaders and it is an exciting time for them as they take that next step in their lives.
“I wish them every success in not just their exams but their future endeavours.”
Exam time does not just bring out nerves and excitement for students.
It can also be a challenging time for parents.
Dietitian Geraldine Georgeou said there are a number of ways parents can help their teenagers be in the best position to tackle the exams.
“What our teenagers need right now is nutrient-rich brain food, especially lean meat such as beef and lamb which is a great source of iron to combat stress and tiredness,” Ms Georgeou said.
Below is a list of tips for students preparing to tackle the year 12 exams.
- Do not miss meals: During exams it is easy to say you do not have time to eat but skipping meals can lead to fatigue and loss of concentration.
- Keep hydrated: Drink plenty of water as dehydration can affect both physical and mental performance.
- Stay active: Exercise can help to reduce stress, improve mood and re-energise the brain while providing a much needed study break.
- Sleep is key: Eight hours of sleep will help you perform at their best. To help sleep, try herbal tea or milk while avoiding caffeine and energy drinks.
- Trust yourself: If you have taken the time to study you should be fine. Take a minute to read the question and consider your answer before you start writing.
