DARDANUP shire residents will have creative technology at their fingertips under plans to transform the public library into a vibrant community hub.
At its meeting on Wednesday, November 5 the Dardanup council will vote on whether to approve funding to relocate the Eaton Community Library and upgrade its Eaton Administration Centre.
Included in the new library are plans for the South West’s first public library Makerspace – a creative DIY space where people gather to create, invent and learn.
The Makerspace will be equipped with digital fabrication for 3D scanning and printing as well as digital media production.
Plans also include 24-hour meeting rooms, dedicated facilities for free community workshops, a children’s area and youth space.
Works on the administration centre will cater for the shire’s projected staffing needs resulting from population growth.
Shire chief executive officer Mark Chester said the new library was part of an overall vision to create fresh vibrancy in the Eaton Town Centre community precinct.
