CIRCUS: In this exquisite cabaret of the senses, a diva melts into a rope, balloons and bubble wrap discover their artistic souls while bodies twist and fly.
Seven performers of unbelievable ability bend the very fabric of reality.
Sexy, funny and explosive, Circa returns with a breathless cocktail of new circus, cabaret and vaudeville, Wunderkammer - coming to the Bunbury Regional Entertainment centre on Saturday, November 1.
Centre marketing manager Kelsie Miller sat down with two of the performers to find out what it's really like to run away with the circus.
Jeremy Marsden has been performing across Australia and around the world with Circa, while Duncan West came onboard about 18 months ago.
Can you describe the Wunderkammer experience?
Duncan: [Wunderkammer] is not circus as you know it.
Everything has been mixed up and rearranged so while there are still what you might consider traditional circus acts, everything has been rejigged in a slightly different way, and we have got that caberet and vaudeville feel.
So there's a lot of different costuming, a little bit of raunchiness and cheekiness, and a few little things to unsettle the audience before we take them back into the rollercoaster of tricks.
Jeremy: It's very much a show built on surprise and unexpectedness, so it's safe to say the audience never knows what's going to happen next.
I think it will really show to Australia that circus is growing, it's different, it's not "just cirque de soleil".
- Circa performer Jeremy Marsden.
Duncan: The music is really different to what you would expect.
To give you an idea of how this entire show is different - all the music is covers, original songs that have been changed and re-done by someone else, which is kind of the same with the circus [in the show]. Everything has been a little bit mixed up.
Apart from that just the traditional thing of hot bodies, sweet tricks and jumping around the stage.
Jeremy: What we do in Circa is sort of do role reversals as well to keep the audience guessing.
So in one scene of the show we actually have all of the women basing the men, which is pretty impressive in itself.
So that's just an example of everything being switched around to surprise the audience.
So why should Bunbury people treat themselves to a night out with Wunderkammer?
Duncan: Because it's a hell of a show.
Jeremy: To be blown away. I think it will really show to Australia that circus is growing, it's different, it's not "just cirque de soleil".
It's about little companies that start in Brisbane and now tour the world.
Duncan: And you can come and meet the cast for a drink in the Sky Bar afterwards!
