CRICKET: The Eaton Beavers claimed their first win of the 2014/15 Bunbury and Districts Cricket Association season on Saturday with a victory over the Dalyellup Beach Settlers.
Winning the toss, the Settlers elected to bat first and struggled after losing their opening batsmen.
Eaton’s bowling was on target, forcing the Settlers under pressure resulting in five batsmen only claiming single figure totals.
Corey Fagan and Tim Cooper claimed an opening partnership of 61 for the Settlers with 31 and 24 runs respectively before Cooper was dismissed on a leg-before-wicket call from a delivery from Kendal Ballard.
After the initial wicket the dismissals of Fagan, Matt Fink and Steve Denison all came quickly, undoing the work of the opening pair and leaving Dalyellup in a hole at 4/76.
The struggles continued for the Settlers as they finished the innings with a score of 9/146.
Shannon Prentice was impressive with the ball for the Beavers claiming the figures of 3/9 from 10 overs, which included four maidens.
Ballard was also strong in the bowling attack with the figures of 4/33.
Eaton began their innings with a worrisome wicket when they lost Justin Prentice for four runs but Julian Crudeli (46) and Mick Rogers (62) steadied the ship.
The pair put on a partnership of 78 runs to put Eaton in the prime position to claim the win.
Ballard also contributed with 18 runs while Clint Hewson hit 10.
The win sees Eaton back on track in the league as they now maintain a 1–2–1 record.
Eaton will tackle Collie away from home next week while Dalyellup will face off against Marist in an important clash.
Collie defeat Hay Park
The Collie Coalminers moved to a 2–2 record on Saturday with a win over the Hay Park Redbacks.
Hay Park received even contributions across the board with Ryan Leybourne (27), Steve Florance (29), Mark Steven (16), Michael Tassone (17) and Chris Waddingham (24) all putting forward solid scores, but it was not enough to hold Collie off.
Rodney Ford was the man of the match with 71 runs for the Coalminers, giving his team a much needed large total to get over the line.
Marist defeat Leschenault
Marist overcame Leschenault with ease on Saturday, ending the game quickly in the second innings.
Leschenault batted first and was dismissed for 86 runs in the 30th over.
Marist made quick work of the total chasing it down in the 20th over.
Matt Foreman top scored for Marist with 44 runs while Corey Fitt hit 23.
