BUNBURY could be on the way to becoming the ultimate aquatic playground with a water bounce park on the cards for Koombana Bay.
City of Bunbury council was presented with a plan last night which has been in the works for most of this year.
Australind business owner Kirsten Cox has been in the party hire game for years and recently came across on-water bouncy castles and water trampolines.
After seeing the popularity of bounce parks in Busselton and Mandurah, Mrs Cox was determined to bring one to Bunbury and began her research.
She has spent many hours throughout this year looking at the concept from every angle, making sure she can guarantee the safety of everyone who uses the park.
With council endorsement, the new venture is expected to open on December 13 and operate every day throughout the summer months.
Mrs Cox said while Bunbury’s proposed water playground on the banks of the Leschenault Inlet could cater to younger children, her bounce park was attracting a lot of interest from young adults.
She also hopes to introduce aquatic corporate challenges for local businesses.
“Everyone is feeling pretty ‘Wowee!’ about it – and to be honest, I am too,” Mrs Cox said.
“But there was a lot of work to do to make sure that the health and safety of users is guaranteed.”
Safety considerations include a compulsory induction and personal flotation devices, coloured wristbands to identify swimming ability, life guards and shark shields on the perimeter.
