A Gillieston Heights man suspected of being in the Brothers 4 Life crime gang has been charged with menace with intent to steal $100,000.
Abdul-Aziz Mohamad El-Masri, 41, allegedly demanded another man supply him $100,000, with the intention of stealing the money.
Police were alerted to his alleged actions and arrested him on Friday evening. It is unclear if the allegations against Mr El-Masri are connected in any way with his reputed status as a Brothers 4 Life gang member.
Mr El-Masri appeared at Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday, where it was heard that he is facing a custodial sentence if successfully prosecuted.
He was granted strict conditional bail, including a $20,000 surety and an order not to approach the victim, and will appear at Bankstown Local Court on December 2.
