BUNBURY residents will soon have more ways to connect to the national wifi network with Telstra set to switch on the first wifi hotspots in town.
One of 250 locations to benefit from the scheme, Bunbury’s network will switch on before Christmas and use existing payphones as hotspots with free access until the network officially launches early next year.
Anyone with a wifi enabled device will be able to access the network.
Telstra area general manager Boyd Brown said the trial in Bunbury is part of an ambitious plan to switch on more than two million hotspots across Australia.
“We want customers to have the in-home wifi experience when they are out and about,” Mr Brown said.
“From browsing the web, streaming videos or sharing photos with friends, we want Bunbury locals to experience what the full network will be like next year.”
The full list of available hotspots is available at telstra.com and includes three sites in Victoria Street and one in Spencer Street.
