My name is Kel, I am a local female rider who loves my bikes, I ride most days and I have no problem with the police “targeting” me one bit.
I do however ask drivers and police to consider the following.
I would like all to consider you will never see me on my mobile phone, never see me reaching down to fiddle with my radio or be distracted by the person next to me or the kids in the back seat.
I will be focused on the road and on the vehicles around me. I can tell you the colour of every driver’s shirt behind and beside me, I can see if they are distracted or not.
I look at every driver at a give way, stop sign or traffic light and treat them all as if they are about to pull out in front of me, I never assume they will do the right thing.
Any one of the above errors will cost me my life, not just a dent on a car.
Perhaps spending at least one hour of an L platers experience time on motorcycle education would do a lot to improve safety.
Many of my car driving friends have no idea that my breaking distance on even an older bike is less than half the distance of their new five-star safety ABS braking car.
There are many things that should be taught to drivers about motorcycle safety but even if this one bit of information alone was public knowledge it could do a lot to improve safety.
Now given the above I will happily resit my test every seven years provided all vehicle drivers do the same.
However given the current test wait time in Bunbury is two months how do you think the increased testing demand will be handled?
Kelly Cull, Bunbury.
