A SIX-YEAR-OLD fighting an aggressive brain tumour is set to receive a helping hand from the now well-known fundraising festival, Project Kate.
Project Kate has become a well-known concept across Greater Bunbury, starting in 2012 as a local charity DJ music festival to raise money for a little girl from Waterloo with a rare childhood cancer.
Last year the Kane family from Bridgetown were the beneficiaries of the event, receiving a helping hand to the tune of $15,000 for little Declan’s battle against neuroblastoma.
This year the young committee have relocated their event to the Brunswick Showgrounds.
Six-year-old boy Lesane ‘Jimi’ Moyle was diagnosed with a medulloblastoma last year and was chosen by the Project Kate team to benefit from the money raised at this year’s festival.
Event manager Jack Manoni said the community response to helping out young local battlers was incredible.
“What was initially a party in a paddock to raise a bit of money has taken on a life of its own,” Mr Manoni said.
“We have been so lucky that the community has been so responsive and thrown its support behind this – we have to keep it going and make the most of that people power.”
Mr Manoni said this year’s event would incorporate local health services to make it a well-rounded festival that would promote positive messages long after the last act has left the stage.
Project Kate will be held on Saturday, December 13 at the Brunswick Showgrounds.
