GIG: You may not have heard of UK singer-songwriter Fiona Bevan – but if you have been anywhere near a radio in the last couple of years, you would have heard her handiwork.
The delightful Londoner is in Australia for the very first time and is having an absolute blast touring with Queensland duo Busby Marou, adding another dimension to their mesmerising acoustic show.
Chatting to her on the phone ahead of her performance at Bunbury’s Prince of Wales Hotel this Friday night, Bevan excitedly tells me she has had the “most incredible introduction” to our country and that everyone has been lovely.
The modest musician is the one responsible for British mega-boy band One Direction’s Little Things, a love song with lyrics including “Your hand fits in mine/ Like it's made just for me/ But bear this in mind/ It was meant to be/ And I'm joining up the dots with the freckles on your cheeks/ And it all makes sense to me.”
She is good mates with international superstar Ed Sheeran, having gigged her way through the same rounds of London pubs as him, and modestly asks me if I’ve “heard of 5 Seconds of Summer” as she is also working with them.
Rest assured, this lady has got talent – and her debut solo album Talk to Strangers attests to that.
Bevan describes it as “pop in disguise” and among the guitars, drums and piano, you’ll hear violin, double bass, accordion and harp, all played by Bevan, a hapi drum and birdsong, some of it real, some of it whistled.
A night at the Prince with Bevan and Busby Marou on Friday night should also see the two acts team up for a special collaboration, which is sure to be a lot of fun.
Lock it in at oztix.com.au and get down there on November 28.
