- Western Australia's first female Premier Carmen Lawrence visited Bunbury to discuss development.
- Queen Elizabeth II visits Australia and Prime Minister Paul Keating breaks royal protocol by placing his hand on the Queen's back. An outraged British tabloid newspaper dubbed him the "Lizard of Oz".
- The High Court of Australia decides in the case Mabo v Queensland, a landmark decision recognising native title in Australia.
- The men who murdered heart surgeon Victor Chang were sentenced to 20 years jail.
- The 1992 Cricket World Cup is held in Australia and New Zealand. Pakistan defeats England in the final at the MCG by 22 runs.
- Mining magnate Lang Hancock passed away in March. His death started a row between his widow Rose Porteous and his daughter Gina Rinehart over the circumstances of his death and his fortune.
