West Australian police have arrested the state's most senior Comanchero bikie gang members over a brutal assault on two men at a Muay Thai boxing event two weeks ago.
Gang Crime Squad officers charged seven members of the gang, including its WA commander and sergeant-at-arms, after raiding a number of properties in Perth on Wednesday.
The charges relate to two serious assaults following a boxing event at the Kingsway Sporting Complex in Madeley on Saturday, November 15.
Police allege a 38-year-old man was first assaulted after being confronted by several members of the bikie gang as he tried to leave the venue.
After he was punched and kicked to the ground, the victim was further beaten as he lay prone.
Police said a bystander who witnessed the incident and tried to intervene by putting himself between the attackers and victim was then allegedly beaten by the gang.
Both men received significant head injuries, requiring medical treatment.
An investigation into the alleged assaults led police to properties in the suburbs of Warnbro, Byford, Stirling, Clarkson, Medina, Mirrabooka and East Perth. The men charged range in age from 26 to 39 years old.
All were charged with causing bodily harm or danger and were remanded in custody to appear in the Joondalup Magistrates Court on Thursday morning.
"The attack highlights the extreme violence criminal motorcycle gangs such as the Comancheros used to intimidate the community," a police spokeswoman said.
"It is the intention of the WA Police, and in particular officers from the Gang Crime Squad, to target and disrupt the unlawful activities of all outlaw motorcycle gangs."
