WALKING: In efforts to raise money and awareness for type one diabetes research, Bunbury local Darren King is currently tackling the Bibbulman Track.
Having been close to the cause for some time with his wife Jen suffering from type one diabetes since a young age, King aims to raise a dollar for every metre he walks, totalling $1 million.
“She (Jen) is inspirational – type one diabetes is constant and it can be a real burden but she handles it so well,” King said.
“I want to help find a cure for type one diabetes not just for Jen, but for so many other people who live with it every day.”
The track’s distance equals up to 24 back-to-back marathons, with King setting himself just two weeks to complete the task.
Undergoing the hike self-supported, King is carrying everything he needs in a backpack while resupplying himself with food and water along the way.
He aims to beat the record for fastest time the track was walked in, which stands at 15 days, nine hours and 48 minutes.
