TWO years ago, walking just 400 metres was a struggle for Bunbury woman Shatha Tarish.
But a passionate Bunbury walking group has helped her overcome her physical disability and now she can easily tackle five kilometres.
She was awarded the Golden Shoe Award for the state which recognises walkers who have achieved significant milestones.
She took her first steps with the South West Women’s Health and Information Centres Walk and Talk Bunbury group and this has sparked a new found motivation within the group. Spokesperson Kerry Lowe said their motto is “Just Do It”.
They come together to get a bit of exercise and look out for each other, as well as promoting heart health and taking part in local fun runs. Ms Lowe said the group was important for creating a sense of belonging and commitment.
One of Shatha’s favourite things about being in the walking group is getting her hot chocolate and marshmallows at the end of the session.
The group meets every Wednesday morning and would love new faces to attend.
