RACING: Fresh from a visit to Queensland’s fabulous Gold Coast for a memorable experience at the Magic Millions sales and $5 million race day I will endeavor to come up with a couple of winners for today's eight event card at Bunbury.
A good number of local people attended the Gold Coast for the Magic Millions including prominent owners Dan and Julie Love and the Bayliss family both of whom were active buyers at the sale.
Bunbury Turf Club current leading trainer Simon Foster was also in attendance and a group of locals including Craig Chadwick, Greg Mason, David Palmer and Graeme Criickshank were there to see a horse by the name of Zutennant trained out of Sydney by Kevin Moses and in which they have an interest run in the $2 million two year race.
Unfortunately the horse went badly shin sore and did not run well in the race which was won by a Sunshine Coast owned and trained beast named Le Chef ridden by leading Queensland hoop Luke Tennant.
The main event at Bunbury tomorrow will be race seven the $17,500 Dennis McAtee handicap over 1000 metres at 4.45pm.
I fancy the Ross and Clint Price trained Hop on Hop Off to be ridden by Kate Witten in this. The horse has only missed a placing once in six starts and was a credible third behind Distant Memory here last time out.
In race one I am selecting the Price stable again this time with Craft Red who ran four and a half lengths behind the winner at Bunbury on race debut. Expect improvement.
In the third I think Dance Mindy Dance for David Harrison and Renee (Bam Bam) Forrest looks a good thing based on last outing when second to the smart Red Ora at Ascot and in the fourth race I like Silver Serena who has been racing in stronger company.
The fifth looks a tough affair but I have selected the Pinjarra trained Royal Line for Brett Pope and Craig Staples who has been placed at three of five starts and was second to Wave Walker here last start.
I am going for an outsider in race six with Sky Balloon trained at Gelorup by Malcolm Byas. The horse hasn’t shown a lot this preparation but I am banking on a big improvement and in the last I think Musark look s the goods for Mark Bairstow after winning here last time out when defeating Mr Balfine.
My best bets for the day are Crafty Red, Dance Mindy Dance, Hop On Hop Off and Musark.
