BUNBURY’S St John Ambulance service will receive a boost to their efforts to reduce response times in the coming weeks, with a second ambulance depot set to start operating soon.
The depot, located on Denning Road in East Bunbury, will house two ambulances and operate on a 12-hour cycle from 10.30am to 10.30pm, seven days a week.
The facility features a storage unit for ambulance supplies and could become a training ground for paramedics and volunteers in the future.
St John Ambulance assistant regional manager Dianne Langford-Fisher said the new depot would allow the opportunity to reduce response times across the South West.
“This new depot will open a number of doors for us,” she said.
“It’s been a long time coming and now we can treat and transfer people much more quickly.”
Ms Langford-Fisher also said the central location would provide St John Ambulance with easy access to incidents within the Bunbury CBD.
“Our paramedics and volunteers will be able to react quicker to calls within the Bunbury area,” she said.
“There were a lot of factors that went into selecting this location.”
St John Ambulance will be looking for more volunteers to assist the second depot in the coming weeks.
