THE City of Mandurah has secured key funding from Healthway for two major community events.
The State Government’s health promotion foundation has announced $220,000 funding for the Mandurah Crab Fest and $50,000 for the Stretch Arts Festival over the next two years.
It’s the largest single sponsorship the City has ever secured for Crab Fest and will ensure the event continues to grow, boosting services, facilities and infrastructure.
Mayor Marina Vergone said Crab Fest and the Stretch Arts Festival were fantastic events promoting community engagement, fresh healthy food and amazing live entertainment.
“Healthway and the City share common values; the desire to grow a strong healthy community, reduce obesity and promote good mental health,” she said.
“Our new partnership will allow us to further develop these amazing events, improving entertainment, the arts, food, local business involvement and tourism.”
Healthway executive director David Malone said Healthway was delighted to partner with the City of Mandurah to present these two popular community events, which promote important health messages – LiveLighter and Act-Belong-Commit. “The two health messages combine to promote positive physical and mental health,” he said.
“LiveLighter encourages people to live a healthy lifestyle and promotes awareness of the link between being overweight and developing chronic disease while Act-Belong-Commit promotes positive mental health by encouraging people to get involved in community activities like these two great events.”
The 17th annual Channel 7 Mandurah Crab Fest presented by LiveLighter is on March 14 and 15.
The Stretch Arts Festival presented by Act-Belong-Commit runs from May 1-10.
