CRICKET: Hay Park bounced back from their loss to Marist last week with a strong win against the Dalyellup Beach Settlers.
A prolific performance with the ball in hand from Chris Waddingham saw the Redbacks dismiss Dalyellup before they could make a dash for the needed total.
Batting first, the Redbacks posted a defendable total thanks to 74 runs coming from the bat of Mark Steven coming in at number three.
Steven was aided by Ross Knoll (18), Kris Miller (32) and Chris Waddingham (20) as the Redbacks carved out 193 runs at the cost of nine wickets.
Scott Harber was the Settlers’ top wicket-taker with the figures of 3/39.
Dalyellup Beach got off to a strong start in their run chase with powerhouse batsman Tim Cooper not holding back on the Hay Park bowlers.
Cooper notched 73 runs in his innings with the remainder of the Dalyellup top order also giving double figure contributions.
Corey Fagan put 14 runs towards the total, while Matt Fink (21) and Dylan Watson (23) also contributed to getting their side in the position of 3/127.
However, a collapse from the middle order to the end of the line-up eventually saw Dalyellup fall.
The final seven batsmen in the order put together a combined 25 runs as Hay Park’s Waddingham tore through the Settlers’ attack.
Waddingham finished with the figures of 6/21, claiming man of the match honours and leading his side to the win.
Next week Hay Park will face off against Eaton in a bid to regain a spot in the top four, while Dalyellup will look to bounce back in a fortnight with the bye next week.
