THE Bunbury RSL has invited families and friends of World War I diggers to celebrate their memory in the lead-up to Anzac Day.
Residents can bring in a photo of someone who served in World War I and the RSL will make a copy, enlarge it to A3 size and laminate it.
Families and friends will then be invited to a small service in Anzac Park on a Sunday or Wednesday at 10.50am from March 29.
RSL vice president Tim Thomson invited families to share the story of the diggers’ service in Gallipoli.
“It will be the time to show respect and gratitude to honour the sacrifice and for some the ultimate sacrifice they made,” he said.
“The laminated photograph will be presented in a formal ceremony by a soldier in World War I uniform.”
They are welcoming photographs of diggers from across the South West and encouraged the community to spread the word beyond Bunbury.
Co-vice president Tony Zajer said photographs the RSL already have of registered diggers will be displayed in shopfront windows in the lead up to Anzac Day.
He asked businesses who would like to partake in displaying these photographs to contact the RSL.
Mr Zajer said the support they have received from PrintSync and SOS have been terrific and thanked them for getting behind such an important tribute.
