Margaret River local Mira Clohessy is locked on to machinery in Mowen forest, holding up the logging.
Save Mowen Forest has been vehemently defending Mowen forest for several months. A 1600 strong petition, which was endorsed by the Augusta Margaret River Shire Council, was tabled in Parliament late last year. A decision on a Parliamentary inquiry into the logging is soon to be announced.
In the meantime, logging has begun and a non-violent direct action campaign has been gaining momentum and delaying the logging.
A highly successful crowd-funding campaign raised $90,000 - the anticipated net income logging would generate - to 'buy' the forest's protection from the State Government, but the Premier and Forestry Minister rejected the offer.
Forestry minister Mia Davies said the forestry industry was an important part of the fabric of the South West and the government would continue to support the industry.
Ms Clohessy said the group have tried everything.
"We have gone through all the official channels and the state government just isn't listening, so I'm taking this personal stand to defend this beautiful forest," she said.
"My daughter asked me why we couldn't just stop them, and I told her that I would try."
Jess Beckerling, convener of the WA Forest Alliance was on site with Mira on Tuesday morning.
"Save Mowen Forest has gained extraordinary support for the protection of this forest. There is a buzz in Margaret River, people know what is happening and are supporting the campaign in tangible ways," Ms Beckerling said.
"The Premier's antagonistic attitude towards people who are working so hard, and so selflessly, to protect forests and wildlife is not going down well.
"Native forests are worth more standing than they are as firewood and woodchips. It makes no sense to keep logging native forests when the industry is running at a loss and plantations are ready to take over."
David Rastrick and Kylie Tylor, who both stopped logging in Mowen by locking on to machinery, are in court in Margaret River today charged with causing a nuisance on CALM land.
