A VINTAGE motorbike rally will showcase some of the oldest bikes from across the state on the streets of Bunbury this weekend.

It is the Indian Harley Club of Bunbury’s 41st gala event and will see 175 riders take to the roads in the two day challenge.

Publicity officer Bill Pike enjoys being part of the planning process and said there was a lot that goes into preparing for this event.

“We are the only club in the South West to hold an event like this and it is great to see all the bikes come together for one day,” he said.

The first rider takes off on Saturday at 10am and 8.30 am on Sunday with the run starting and finishing at the clubrooms each day.

Mr Pike got involved many years ago after he inherited a 1950 G80 s Matchless bike from his father who raced in the 1950 Australian TT.

The hardest part of restoring the bikes is locating the parts and the older the bike is the harder it gets, Mr Pike said.

All bikes competing need to be licenced and as a minimum have a special B class licence.

All bikes with a B class licence must be inspected annually and given a road worthy certificate before they can be ridden.

“Riders must be a financial member of the Bunbury Indian Harley Club or other recognised vintage motorcycle club,” said Mr Pike.

This is a great opportunity to see the large range of vintage bikes from all over Western Australia.

The two day rally will be run from the clubrooms located on the South Western Highway, adjacent to the Bunbury Airport.

It will be held on March 7 and 8.
