THE brand new year seven Bunbury High School building was officially opened by Education Minister Peter Collier and Lands Minister Terry Redman on Friday morning.
The $5.5 million dollar building was built as part of the Royalties for Regions investment into the South West.
“It is an absolutely outstanding building and it is a tribute to the architects and it adds to what is already an established school with an enviable reputation,” Mr Collier said.
Mr Redman said these development in the South West are part of a vision to make Bunbury a place that people want to live in and be part of.
"This is not just a $5.5 million project that Royalties for Regions has chosen to inject their money in, it's actually investing in our economy," he said.
The government injected $230 million in 29 projects throughout Western Australia and the Bunbury Senior High School was one of the projects.
“We have added to the success and it has enhanced what is already an outstanding academic institution,” Mr Collier said.
$22.4 million dollars was injected into the SWITCH program that allowed some primary school teachers to switch to secondary.
Minister Collier said it had been a very good policy decision to transition year sevens into secondary school and had been implemented seamlessly.
He also thanked the teachers and those involved for the patience and dedication while the construction of the building was complete.
The school principal Craige Pettit was very grateful for the new building and said the school was very lucky to have received a building like this.
