YEAR-ROUND access to the beach at Hungry Hollow will soon be possible with work aimed at reducing beach erosion to begin after the Easter break.
Civilcon Constructions will construct a seawall and extend the existing concrete stairs to remove a drop-off that occurs during winter due to erosion.
The bottom of the beach access stairway is washed away most winters, causing the drop-off. This can result in the stairs being closed to the public or the need for sand to be pushed back using heavy machinery.
The Hungry Hollow beach access stairs will be closed to the public effective from 7 April for the remainder of the month.
Pedestrian management will be in place and traffic management will also be in place when required.
City of Bunbury Mayor Gary Brennan said addressing erosion and access issues at the beach demonstrated the City’s commitment to improving infrastructure.
“Hungry Hollow is a popular beach for everyone from surfers to families, even during the colder months and the City is ensuring access to one of our great natural assets is always available to residents and visitors alike,” Mr Brennan said.
