CYCLING, speed skating, wheelchair racing and other wheeled sporting clubs are invited to join forces in an incorporated body to develop a South West Wheeled Sports Track in the Dardanup shire.
The shire has put the call out for interest from clubs and associations who would take up the lease of 7.5 hectares of land in Waterloo where the proposed track would be built.
The facility is the brainchild of keen cyclist Bryce Lanigan who has been working with the Dardanup shire to develop his ambitious plan since late last year.
The teenager had the crowd buzzing when he presented his ideas at a TEDxBunbury event in October last year – the only youth speaker at the first global ideas forum staged in the city.
Bryce is an avid member of the South West Cycle Club and began to investigate the possibility of a criterium track which would allow riders a safe environment to train and improve their skills.
He decided that a local facility should incorporate a range of wheeled sports to bring the community together and ideally host state, national and international events.
An information session about the proposed track will be held on Wednesday, May 6 at the Dardanup shire’s administration centre at 1 Council Drive in Eaton.
