YARLOOP Police Station officer-in-charge Sergeant Ross Adam has shown that country cops have a softer side after he met a staffy named Bella.
Bella was abandoned at Yarloop Police Station after her owner left town just over a fortnight ago.
Sgt Adam did not think twice about taking Bella in, caring for her while attempting to track down her owner.
After a week of searching with no result, Sgt Adam was forced to give Bella to the local rangers in the hope they might have better luck.
A week later Sgt Adam heard that Bella’s owner couldn't be found and she was facing the prospect of being euthanised in the very near future.
Sgt Adam could not bear to see Bella be put down and decided to adopt her.
When he picked Bella up he was shocked to see how skinny she had become in such a short period of time.
Thinking that this was due to the stress of her situation, Sgt Adam took her home for some TLC and hand feeding, hoping that this would see her get back in shape.
Unfortunately, after he got her home he noticed that she was lethargic and not interested in her food, and within 36 hours her health deteriorated to the point that she was rushed to an emergency vet.
She is currently in an induced coma and on an IV to keep her alive and requires urgent surgery to live.
Sgt Adam had a very hard decision to make whether or not to euthanise Bella, but refused to do so.
Surgery will not guarantee that Bella will live, but given the odds she’s already overcome, Sgt Adam is confident she’ll once again rise to the challenge.
