YALLINGUP surfer Jay Davies is living a dream.
The 28-year-old surfer who won a wildcard entry into the 2015 Drug Aware Margaret River Pro is slaying giants left, right and centre.
His latest victim in round three was countryman Mick Fanning who currently tops the world championship men's surfing rankings.
Taking to the water at The Box on Thursday morning, Davies posted a score of 16.83 from his best two waves to defeat Fanning who only managed 13.90.
"That was so fun... I just really had to forget about all the other heats that I pulled back and just put my head down," he said.
"It was like, the steepest take off - I just wanted to give it everything I had.
"I thought I was going to come off, but I was lucky enough to hold on."
Davies said he was having lots of fun surfing at a perfect Box.
"It’s exciting to do it in my own hometown in front of all my friends and family, it’s just making it all so much sweeter," he said.
"I enjoyed surfing against Mick [who is] one of my good friends. He’s just such a champion. We even shook hands half way through the heat, that’s how fun it was."
On Wednesday the hometown hero took a victory over reigning world champion Gabriel Medina from Brazil.
"I watched Gabriel win the world title last year and I was pumped to get the chance to surf against him at one of the best waves in the world," Davies said.
"I get to surf here all the time so hopefully that will help me get through some more rounds."
Not bad for someone who is not on the regular tour.
