A large aftershock has struck Nepal almost a day after a catastrophic 7.9 magnitude earthquake killed thousands of people and demolished monuments in Kathmandu.
The 6.7 magnitude quake, which was centred east of Kathmandu, caused three further avalanches on Mount Everest but there are no reports of injury so far.
At least 17 people died at the mountain's base camp on Saturday after the first earthquake triggered a massive avalanche.
Jim Davidson, an American climber at camp one on Mount Everest, texted an update via satellite from almost 20 thousand feet.
"Just had our biggest aftershock yet here at C1 on Everest," the short message said.
"Smaller than original quake but glacier shook & avalanches again. Nerve wracking."
Rescue teams have evacuated some of those injured in the initial earthquake but have been hampered by bad weather. The first rescue plane from Everest base camp arrived in Kathmandu with 15 injured climbers on board shortly before the aftershock on Sunday.
Jason Burke, a journalist for The Guardian newspaper, said on Twitter the powerful shock went for "a long minute" and was like being on the deck of a small ship in gale force winds.
The shock was felt as far away as New Delhi, where people reportedly ran into the street.
Many residents and tourists in Kathmandu had been sleeping in fields since the earthquake, the country's worst in 81 years, in case there were aftershocks.
More than 1900 people have been confirmed dead in the disaster and many more are injured and missing.
