COME and meet your local firefighters and see them in action this weekend as they commemorate annual International Firefighters Day.
An event will be held at the Graham Bricknell Music Shell on Sunday, May 3 from 10am to show the community what it takes to be a firefighter.
Fire and Emergency Services Commissioner Wayne Gregson said International Firefighters Day pays tribute to WA’s fallen firefighters, who made the ultimate sacrifice in serving and protecting the community.
"We are very fortunate to have such highly skilled and capable fire services upon which the community can rely,” Commissioner Gregson said.
"The Department of Fire and Emergency Services is committed to ensuring the safety of our firefighters, and we will continue to do all we can to improve and protect their welfare.”
Commissioner Gregson said the day was also a chance to acknowledge those who supported firefighters in what was a physically and mentally demanding profession.
"The commitment of our firefighters would not be possible without the support of their families,” he said.
The Bunbury event is a family fun day and an opportunity for the community to meet with local firefighters firsthand.
There will be vehicle rescue demonstrations, kitchen fire demonstrations, a fire truck display and more.
It runs from 10am to 1pm at the Graham Bricknell Music Shell.
