MUNDIJONG Centrals broke through to record their first win of the season against Mandurah after a string of heavy defeats.
The average losing margin for the Centrals across their last two games was 87 points but they snapped the trend with a 13.10 (88) to 10.11 (71) victory against Mandurah.
Mandurah, who are now level with Mundijong with a one-win, three-loss record, started strongly to lead by 20 points at quarter time.
The Mustangs still led at half-time but kicked just two goals in the second half compared to Mundijong’s seven.
After losing their opening two games of the season Pinjarra have bounced back to win their last two games, their latest a 28-point win against the previously undefeated South Mandurah, 9.9 (63) to 4.11 (35). South Mandurah was goalless at half-time with Pinjarra leading by 23 points but bounced back to reduce the deficit to just two points at three-quarter time.
Pinjarra settled in the last, piling on five goals to South Mandurah’s one to win comfortably.
Jacob Williams led the way for Pinjarra with three goals, backing up his four goals against Centrals the week before.
Baldivis moved to third position following a 44-point win against Rockingham.
Baldivis, with two wins and two losses to start the season, were never threatened by Rockingham who also entered the game with just one win.
Playing at home, Waroona (2-2) started promisingly against the undefeated Halls Head but couldn’t keep up the pressure, kicking just one goal in the second half to lose 4.5 (29) to 10.8 (68).
In an even display Tim Bruce, Brodie Culpitt and Bradley Collard all kicked two goals for Halls Head.
Waroona only had single goal scorers.
In the Reserves, Waroona defeated Halls Head 7.7 (49) to 5.7 (37), Baldivis were too strong for Rockingham 19.14 (128) to 2.1 (13), South Mandurah defeated Pinjarra 12.8 (80) to 8.5 (53) and Mandurah smashed Centrals 15.18 (108) to 2.3 (15).
In the Colts, Waroona defeated Halls Head 10.8 (68) to 9.9 (63), Baldivis got the points against Rockingham 9.14 (68) to 6.12 (48), South Mandurah drew with Pinjarra 10.9 (69) to 10.9 (69) and Mandurah thrashed Centrals 23.10 (148) to 8.1 (49).
This weekend Halls Head play South Mandurah, Rockingham take on Pinjarra, Baldivis play Mandurah and Centrals come up against Waroona.
