THE ladies of the Bunbury Golf Club are united by more than just their love of the sport – many of them have been personally affected by breast cancer.
For this reason, they have rallied together to take part in Bunbury’s first Mothers Day Classic walk this Sunday.
Club member Deidre Milne said at least 30 ladies were going to take part in the walk around the Big Swamp to show their support for breast cancer research.
And Mrs Milne, who has been five years clear of breast cancer herself, will be supported by four generations of her family.
She will be joined by her mother, daughter, son and grandson on the day.
“Sadly, so many of the golf club ladies have been affected by breast cancer or know someone who has,” Mrs Milne said.
“But it’s a good show of community spirit to get together and show our support.”
Organiser Dr Parthasarathy Ramesh said he started the event in Bunbury because most people were connected by cancer in one way or another.
Dr Ramesh was expecting up to 500 walkers to sign up for the event which offered a two and four kilometre walk.
Registrations should be made through mothersdayclassic.com.au by finding the Bunbury event or registering on the day.
Online entries close at 11.59pm on May 6 but cash registrations will be available at the event.
