A VISION to bring a wheeled sports facility to the Dardanup shire has attracted state and national interest from cycling and speed skating bodies keen to see it come to fruition.
Earlier this month, the Dardanup shire hosted an information meeting for anyone interested in the proposal brought to life by 15-year-old Bryce Lanigan.
A contact list was established of clubs and associations keen to become stakeholders as part of an incorporated body which would then develop and manage the facilities.
Written expressions of interests are being called for and further information supplied so that clubs and associations new to this proposal can see if their clubs are compatible with Bryce’s vision.
The facility’s aim is to provide the community, as well as athletes and development riders and skaters, with the infrastructure required to learn, socialise and exercise through the participation in non-motorised wheeled sports.
The intent is that schools, clubs and associations and the wider community can apply to use the state-of-the-art racing and training facilities when not booked for use for designated training sessions or events and certain features will be on a user-pay basis to help maintain the facility.
It will be designed to act as a healthy, social hub for the community to exercise and try alternative sports and recreational activities of cycling and speed skating in a safe environment away from traffic.
The project gathered widespread attention when Bryce was invited to speak at the inaugural TEDx event held in Bunbury in October 2014.
