REVIEW: The night was rolling along beautifully – it was a stormy, wet night outside but we were happily enjoying the hospitality of the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre’s new Sky Bar with pizza, cocktails and entertainment on tap.
The crowd made its way back and forward between the bar, which was brought to life by local DJs Princi and Nate D, and The Cube stage which welcomed Busso lads Said The People, winners of the recent Battle of the Bands competition.
It was shaping up to be a great night out at the May edition of Out of the Box and Into the Cube – and then Melbourne rock and roll trio Dallas Frasca took the stage and took Saturday to a whole new level of rad.
Having spoken to frontwoman Dallas earlier in the week, I knew she was a wild woman with an infectious positive energy determined to embrace every opportunity to have an awesome time.
She took the stage with drummer Josh Eales and guitarist Jeff Curran and blazed into gear, ripping into the set and dragging a good crowd to the dance floor.
But this did not satisfy Dallas.
Jumping off the stage and into the audience, she informed us in no uncertain terms that it was our choice if the show went on or not.
It was apparent to everyone that this wasn’t a band that just performed in front of a crowd – they were there to party and we needed to come along for the ride or don’t come at all.
Unless everyone in the venue got to their feet and took up a spot on the dance floor, it seemed she and the boys were going to call it a night and head back east.
This is exactly what the crowd needed – within minutes everyone was up and the energy of the gig had lifted through the roof.
Just to make things even more crazy slash awesome, she went on to instruct everyone to sit on the floor with her, and of course we did (you don’t argue with a rock goddess who has toured Europe three times in the last 12 months).

The set ended with Dallas calling Said The People back to the stage along with a whole heap of audience members, to the point where it was basically a mosh pit of blow-up crabs and giraffe costumes and ecstatic grins all round.
I could almost guarantee that everyone in the venue had an absolute blast and I sincerely hope that they spread the word among their friends.
BREC’s Out of the Box and Into the Cube gigs are insanely good and if we don’t support them, we may end up losing them altogether.
Your move, Bunbury.
Out of the Box is turning one in July! To help celebrate, San Cisco and GRRL PAL are heading to BREC to party. Pre-sale tickets on sale now to X2Y Members, tickets go on sale to the general public Wednesday, May 27.
