STRONGER connections in the community have been built following a number of cross-cultural awareness workshops held in the South West throughout May.
The workshops, hosted by the South West Catchments Council in partnership with local Noongar community representatives in Narrogin, Bunbury and Roelands, aimed to deliver an increased level of collaboration and understanding within the community.
Community engagement program manager Nerilee Boshammer said the workshops produced positive results for the South West.
“It was great to see people from other sectors attending the workshops, particularly the health and education sectors,” she said.
Ballardong-Wilman Yorga, Geri Hayden, facilitated the workshops and said engagement in community projects was crucial.
“It’s important that you engage the Noongar community early in the process and allow them to make some of the decisions,”
“Start with your local elders or Noongar organisation and build the trust from there.”
The project was supported by the South West Catchments Council.
