A SMALL but committed group attended the first clean-up organised by the Keeping Collie Clean Group on Sunday.
The group targeted areas around Minninup Pool, collecting dozens of bags of rubbish.
As the fog cleared up, the group went to work.
The rubbish was often in clusters where there were signs of alcohol and substance abuse.
Organiser Robert Fardig said he wanted to help keep places like Minninup Pool safe and clean for future generations.
“I like coming to places like this,” he said.
“We wanted to keep the momentum going after other clean-ups.”
Mr Fardig said the clean-up was about cleaning spots that are often missed.
“While main roads and other more public locations get regularly cleaned up, more isolated spots get neglected,” he said.
“That’s what we wanted to target.”
“The Council does what it can, but they have limited resources.”
William Swan said he attended the clean-up because he wanted to contribute to the community.
“I’ve been living in Collie a while and I’ve grown tired of seeing the rubbish,” he said.
“Once I heard Rob started a group, I wanted to do something to help.
“Hopefully in the future we can get even more people turning up and helping.”
