A VIBRANT hub in Eaton that aims to become the community’s “third place” outside of work and home is on its way with draft designs approved by council.
Tenders will now be called for more detailed design and construction of the Dardanup shire’s new and upgraded Eaton Public Library and co-located administration centre.
Council approved a plan to relocate the library from its current Eaton Community College site in November.
Included in the new library are plans for the South West’s first public library Makerspace, a creative DIY space equipped with digital fabrication for 3D scanning and printing.
The library will also include 24-hour community group meeting rooms, facilities for free community workshops, a children’s area and youth space, study areas and an outdoor reading room.
Shire chief executive officer Mark Chester said the new library would complement the Eaton Town Centre Project, new $4 million Eaton Sports Pavilion plus the Eaton Fair Shopping Centre upgrade.
“As individuals we spend most of our time at home and at work,” Mr Chester said.
“The plan is to make this new modern library so intrinsically useful that it becomes everyone’s third place – home, work, library.”
