MAJOR projects that have far-reaching benefits for the wider community form part of a program of upgrades and new facilities in 2015/16.
The City has allocated $2.3 million to stormwater improvements, which includes drainage projects to improve the Horseshoe Lake catchment and renewing sections of drain infrastructure.
Construction of a $2 million waste transfer station that will provide a convenient way for residents to dispose of their waste and recyclables is one of the Budget’s big ticket projects.
The transfer station will redirect waste from landfill while also maximising recycling of appropriate items and sending green waste to organics.
Funding of $1 million will come from state government grants.
The City is taking the lead in the design and construction of the Bunbury State Emergency Service headquarters and incident control centre.
The $1.1 million project is fully funded by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services.
A new animal care facility will be constructed at a cost of $377,000, replacing the City’s ageing pound.
The project commenced in 2014/15 and the completed facility will also be available to surrounding local governments to make use of.
