New modelling school to set up bright futures

Well-known local stylist Nathan Gardiner, who works closely with Perth designer Betty Tran, is ready to launch his own new business called Faces. 

The venture will combine an educational, skills-based program with a talent booking service, led by Shiralee Murray. 

Run out of the store that formerly housed Shoe Show, the school will allow young people to enrol in an ongoing course which will educate them on all aspects of the fashion industry. 

From a catwalk perspective, there will be a strong focus on the walk which Mr Gardiner explained was the basis of everything for a model. 

It would then go on to empower participants with skills including hair, makeup, yoga, physical, emotional and intellectual wellness, positive body image and how to handle rejection. 

Mr Gardiner said another important focus in the modern world was social media etiquette and how to stay safe online. 

“We would also look at things like how to walk into a room and introduce yourself – these are the skills that are going to have a positive impact on their futures, regardless of which path they choose,” he said. 

Faces will have a strong community focus, working with local organisations if they need talent for an event. 

“The focus of the business is not on creating a breeding ground for supermodels, it’s about teaching through inclusion – fashion is not exclusivist, we all make fashionable choices every day.”
